Happy Melts = Yummilicious

I've been putting puffs and Happy Melts (yummilicous dehydrated yogurt bites) on T's high chair tray for a few weeks now while I do dishes. He stays occupied chasing them around the tray with his little hands, but does not have the pincher grasp yet to get ahold of anything.

Today his hands were wet from playing with his sippy cup, so the Happy Melts stuck to his hands, and he was able to get a few in his mouth. He was a very happy little guy! I loved watching him try to shove his whole hand in his mouth in an effort to get that little yogurt bit in. He is TOO CUTE! Need a new spokesbaby Happy Melts??

Teething (otherwise known as no sleep for Mommy)

Turner has been teething in a major way lately. He currently has three teeth on the bottom. Two popped in right after Christmas and the third came in just this week. His upper gums are a little swollen, so I think his top two teefers are not far behind.

All this teething is causing Mr. T quite a bit of discomfort. He's fine during the day, but nights are rough. I give him ibuprofen before bed and put Orajel on his baby gums, but he still wakes up A LOT. I feel so sad for him because his cry is a painful cry, so I can't lay in bed and let him carry on, whether it's 2 a.m. or not. Needless to say, there has not been a lot of shut eye araound our house.

The only thing I have found that seems to comfort him in his crib is giving him a cold teething ring and a bib - not to wear, but to hold. It's a little odd, but it has helped out in the wee hours of the morning.

In other news, Turner started pulling up on his baby feet this week! I caught his first official stand in his crib the other night and snapped a couple of not-so-clear pics. And yes, he is wearing Christmas jammies at the end of January. Don't judge - that's one more day I can go without doing T's laundry.

Roar!

In the last week Turner has learned to pull himself up onto his knees. One of his favorite places to do this is on the couch so he can sneak a peek of Lucy. When T's in a good mood, he thinks Lucy is hilarious and giggles like crazy just looking at her! It is about the cutest thing ever.

His second favorite place to pull up is on his lion toy Grandma Steffen got him for Christmas. It lights up and plays music when he presses its nose or spins the ball on its back. Mommy could do without hearing Pop-Goes-the-Weasel all day long, but if it humors Mr. T, then I'll deal!

Better Late Than Never

I know Christmas was almost a month ago, but I finally put T's pictures on the computer. Turner got lots of gifts, but he was really more interested in eating wrapping paper! We went to Great Grandma and Grandpa Swartzel's the Saturday before Christmas,Grandma and Grandpa Steffen's and Aunt Susan's Christmas Eve, and Grammy and Papaw's Christmas day. He was a busy boy!I'm not good about remembering my camera, so below are pictures from Grandma and GrandpaSteffen's and our house Christmas morning.

Ten on Tuesday

1. Big Tster has started getting himself into the sitting positon from his tummy.

2. He can crawl all over the place!

3. I am terrified I will accidentally leave the basement door open. I woke up panicked about it last night. It's time to get a baby gate.

4. T loves the curtains in the living room. His goal in life right now is to yank them down, so I'm going to have to pull them back or take them down.

5. I picked out a convertible car seat for Turner. He's super long and his baby feet are starting to hang out of his infant seat.

6. I'm having a really hard time changing T's diaper. He does not want to lay on his back on the changing table. He keeps flipping over, and it's super annoying!

7. I'm listening to Turner snore is his car seat as I type this - too cute.

8. We've been reading books every night before bedtime and Turner is starting to act very interested in his books. He likes to touch the pages while I read.

9. His current fav is Moo, Baa, La, La, La! By Sandra Boynton. He looks up at me and smiles when I make the animal noises.

10. I know it's out of season - but here is a Halloween picture of Turner in his scarecrow costume Grammy made!

Quack, Quack!

Turner's current favorite toy is his talking duck that Great Grandma and Grandpa Swartzel gave him for Christmas. He loves to play with Mister Duck in his crib. Unfortunately for Mommy, Mister Duck only sings two songs, which get stuck in my head. "I quack to say hello, my friends are passing by. And when it's time to go I quack to say bye-bye . . .quack, quack!"

Mommy's Big Bed

Turner loves to play on Mommy's big bed - supervised of course. If he's having a fussy spell, sometimes we hang out there and all is well. He also likes to pull on Lucy's tail while on Mommy's bed, or anywhere else for that matter. So far, Lucy has been a good girl about this, but I am going to have her tail cut short to try to cur"tail" (ha!) Turner's pulling.

Turner Loves His Sippy Cup

A few weeks ago my sister told me it was time to bust out the sippy cup for Turner. I couldn't believe it! Sippy cups are for big kids, not my baby! Well, I got some Take-n-Toss sippy cups and Turner loves them! Starting from day one he would drink about an ounce of milk or water if I held the cup for him. After about a week of Mommy holding the cup Big T decided he'd rather hold the sippy cup himself, only he tries to drink from the wrong end of the cup. He also enjoys playing with it and banging it on his highchair tray. He was none to happy when Mommy took it away at dinnertime tonight!

Tummy Troubles

Last week I woke up in the middle of the night with some serious tummy troubles. I won't go into details, but let's just say there was a toilet and trash can being used simultaneously. Luckily, my sister and mom came to my rescue to help with baby T since Erik had to fly out to Minneapolis for work. Iwas rendered pretty useless for three days.

My mom came over in the evening to help take care of T and me. I don't remember much of it because I was feeling pretty rough,  but I do remember telling her she needed to sing to Turner while he ate his cereal and pears. She went with two classics . . . La Cucuracha and Benny and the Jets. Of all the songs in the world, I find it hysterical that those were her choices. My sick self appreciated the comic relief as I laid on the couch.

So far, Turner has not gotten the bug, and I thought my mom and sister's family were clear, but poor Kelly Belly woke up sick from his nap this afternoon. I hope it doesn't hit the rest of the family. I don't have any pics related to this, and I'm sure no one would want to see them if I did! So, I'll end with  a picture of random Tster cuteness.

Bumpers on the Brain

I have some major anxiety over T's bumper. All the experts say not to use bumpers, as they may pose a suffocation risk. However, bumpers have been used in millions of cribs for a long time, and they are still on  the market. I am usually a by-the-book kind of gal, so I was leery of using Big T's bumper.

That being said, he had a rough transition from his yellow bassinet thing to the crib. He loved being snuggled up in "The yellow thing," so when I transitioned him to the crib and he was not having it, I put in the bumper so he could rest his back against it. Turns out, I don't think any baby has ever loved a bumper as much as T does. He lays against his bumper, rests his arms and legs on the bumper, pats the bumper and contently investigates the stripes. He hearts his bumper!

It gives me A LOT of anxiety though. Even though my rational self knows he is old enough to roll over if his face is against it, I still worry - because that's how I am. So, last weekend I went to Babies R Us and found a BREATHABLE padded crib bumper. I know . . . I didn't believe it either! I even took it out of the package and stuffed  my face into it like a crazy person, and it's true! I could breathe through the fabric! I was super pumped, only to be disappointed when I got home and it didn't fit in T's crib correctly *sigh*. So, until I can bear to listen to Turner howl for a few nights when I take his beloved bumper away, I'll just have to keep checking on T on the regular. Here's a few pics of T and said bumper.

I'm Baa-aack!

Well, I've been MIA for three months. Oops! I didn't mean to fall off the blogging bandwagon, but I was working on finishing my master's, and I went back to work, so blogging went by the wayside. Anyhoo, I REALLY want to be better about blogging from here on out so I have memories to share with Turner when he's older. My goal is to blog every night when T goes to bed. That means hopefully I'll blog at least three days a week.
I have lots-o-topics to catch up on, including: Big Tster crawling, our bumper troubles, first foods, Christmas, sippy cups, T's favorite toys and more!

Right now I can't find the cord to my camera, so I can't upload any pics from my camera. However, I do have his 6 month pictures from Portreait Innovations already uploaded, sooooo . . . . without further ado, I bring you Mister Turner Douglas Steffen at 6 months old!
